SUNO’s Adkinson and Dozier Earn HBCUAC Weekly Honors
Adkinson named Defender of the Week; Dozier earns Newcomer of the Week recognitio
The Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) Volleyball program continues to make waves across the conference as two Knights have been recognized by the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) for their outstanding performances.
Setter Taszia Adkinson has been named HBCUAC Defender of the Week, while right side Kendrece "KK" Dozier earned HBCUAC Newcomer of the Week honors. Both players were instrumental in SUNO's strong weekend showing, defeating Wiley University 3-1 and taking Philander Smith University to five sets before falling 3-2 to the Panthers.
Adkinson was a defensive anchor for the Knights, leading the team with 39 digs across two matches. She recorded a team-high 19 digs against Wiley College and followed with 20 digs versus Philander Smith College. Adkinson also contributed a match-high 3 blocks against Wiley, demonstrating her all-around impact.
Dozier continues to emerge as a dominant force at the net, posting a season-high 15 kills in SUNO's matchup against Wiley. She hit an impressive .387 while adding two blocks and four digs, further solidifying her reputation as a dependable and versatile right side. Her presence at the net and consistent offensive production have made her a key contributor in SUNO's competitiveness.
"These honors are a reflection of the hard work and dedication Taszia and Kendrece bring every day," said SUNO Head Coach Zipporah Washington. "Taszia has been critical to creating plays because she is so versatile, and Kendrece continues to elevate our offense with her consistency and energy. Both are tremendous assets to our program."
The Knights look to build on their momentum as they continue HBCUAC conference play this week. The Knights return to their home court – The Castle – on Friday, October 17 against Huston-Tillotson University (6 p.m.), followed by a match on Saturday, October 18 against Paul Quinn College (12 p.m.).
