Harris Duo Shine as Lady Knights Come Up Short at North American
STAFFORD, TEXAS – The Lady Knights' search for their first victory of the season came up short (55-81) in Saturday's game against North American University.
NAU jumped off to an early 9-0 lead with buckets by Keiarra Rivers, Sy Lydia, and Kayla Dickey. SUNO got on the board on a jumper by Jordan Harris. After Rivers went 1-of-2 from the free throw line, Harris knocked down a three-pointer to bring the Lady Knights to within five (5-10) in the first quarter. Turnovers and fouls by the Lady Knights gave the Stallions second chances to score, and they capitalized. McKenna Harris hit a three with 7:26 to play in the first half to bring the score to 24-12 in favor of the Stallions, but NAU's tough defense and consistent offense overwhelmed SUNO in the first half and they took a 43-25 lead into the break.
The Lady Knights got a little momentum at the start of the third quarter with M. Harris knocking down two free throws and Savannah Hadley getting on the board with a layup, bringing the score to 47-29 in favor of NAU. J. Harris made good on a layup and Hadley nailed a jumper for her fourth point of the night, and the Lady Knights pulled closer at 33-47. The Harris duo energized the team with a steal by McKenna and made free throw by Jordan to bring the score to 49-36, NAU. Three-pointers by NAU's Elisa Peralta and Lydia, followed by a Dickey layup gave the Stallions a 20-point advantage at the end of the third period, 61-41.
NAU would go on to outscore the Lady Knights 20-14 in the fourth quarter to seal the 81-55 victory.
Rivers led the Stallions with a game-high 23 points. Victoria Moore followed with 18 points, and Desiree Rogers had 11 rebounds.
M. Harris led SUNO with a season-high 17 points and game-high 15 rebounds, while J. Harris added 15 points and four assists.
The Lady Knights continue on the road with a game against LSU-Alexandria on Tuesday, November 21 at 5:30 p.m CT.
