Fresh off their sweep of Philander Smith, the SUNO Knights close out their home slate Tuesday evening when the Loyola Wolfpack come to Wesley Barrow Stadium. The matchup carries added weight — it is the Knights' final home game of the 2026 season, giving the home crowd one last chance to cheer their team before SUNO heads into the postseason stretch run.
Loyola arrives as the #14-ranked team in the NAIA with a formidable 30-12 overall record, going 14-7 in conference play. The Wolfpack are one of the more complete rosters SUNO will face, batting .311 as a team and led by catcher Nathan McDonald (.384, 10 HR, 40 RBI) and middle infielder Jaxon Buratt (.382). Centerfielder Jed Cambre has been a catalyst at the top of the order as well, drawing 42 walks and swiping 27 bags. On the mound, Brady Bowen leads the staff at 5-2 with a 3.42 ERA, while closer Jake Cohen boasts 10 saves and a 1.86 ERA out of the bullpen.
This will not be the Knights' first encounter with nationally-ranked competition. SUNO has already faced William Carey twice this season, so the environment of a high-stakes matchup against a ranked opponent is familiar territory. The experience gained in those contests will be valuable as the Knights look to make a statement against another top-15 program on their own turf.
SUNO has been notably difficult to beat at home this season, carrying an 11-5 home record into Tuesday's contest. The Knights' offense has shown pop throughout the Philander Smith series — Dylan Jimenez (.365, 4-1, 4.23 ERA) is a legitimate two-way threat, and the team's aggressive baserunning style can manufacture runs against even elite pitching staffs. Kyler Shepherd (.348) and Braylon Guerin (.288, 16 SB) have been reliable contributors at the top of the order, and Christopher Nunez (4-2, 4.26 ERA) figures to factor into the pitching plan.
Tuesday's matchup is about more than just one game. SUNO heads into the final West Division series of the regular season this weekend against Wiley University, and every run differential and confidence boost matters. A victory over the #14-ranked Wolfpack at home would send the Knights into that series with momentum — and provide the home crowd a fitting final sendoff for a team with postseason aspirations.
