Shepherd Named Player of the Week
NEW ORLEANS – Southern University at New Orleans outfielder Kyler Shepherd has been named the HBCU Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) Baseball Player of the Week, the conference office announced.
Shepherd delivered a dominant all-around performance at the plate, helping power the Knights through a strong week of play. The dynamic outfielder batted .500 (6-for-12) across four games while driving in five RBIs and scoring five runs. He also posted an impressive .647 on-base percentage, drawing five walks while striking out just once in 17 plate appearances, highlighting his discipline and consistency at the plate.
In addition to his production with the bat, Shepherd was a constant threat on the bases, swiping four stolen bases during the week and applying relentless pressure on opposing defenses. Defensively, he remained flawless in the outfield, contributing to the Knights' strong team performance.
Shepherd's standout week adds to what has already been an impressive start to the season. Through eight games, the outfielder is batting .360 with nine hits, eight RBIs, eight walks, and seven stolen bases, ranking among the team leaders in several offensive categories.
